To add fractions - you have to find the least common multiple of the denominators of the fractions. Then that becomes the new denominator for all the fractions. Then you have to multiply the numerators by the same number you multiplied the denominators.

So 1/5 + 1/10 = 3/10
Multiply the numerator and the denominator of 1/5 by 2 to get an equivalent fraction of 2/10. Then you add it to 1/10 to get your final answer of 3/10. Then you would put the fraction in it's lowest terms and in this case 3/10 is it's lowest term.

And this is the way you can get it right every time.

Ms.O, you are awesome!! So how to add fractions you find the equivilent fraction for each fraction and lets say the problem is 5/10 plus 8/6. 10,20, 30
AND 6,12,18,24,30 so you put 30 as the denominator for both then you multiply 5x8=40 so so the fraction is 30/40 which is an inproper fraction so you could say 1 and1/10 Then you do 10x3=30 so 3x5=15 so 15/30 or 1/2 + 1 and 1/10= 1 and 6/10
